LKA provides an encouraging environment where students find other children like themselves. They no longer are singled out as “different.” Not only are their weaknesses addressed with 90 minutes of structured language arts every day, but their strengths in things like big picture thinking and problem solving are recognized and developed.
With a small group setting, our educators provide individualized instruction that fosters academic excellence, critical thinking, and a love for learning.
Discover Louisiana Key Academy through the eyes of our students, the teachers they love, and the families who chose us. The following events are designed to help guide you through the admission process and familiarize you with our Louisiana Key Academy history, the campus, Elementary School programs, and offerings, as well as what students look forward to as they move through their years at LKA.

The admission process begins with a screening of all application materials. The admissions team then assesses if the student is at risk for dyslexia and if so, the student will be tested to verify dyslexia. If the applicant is found to be dyslexic by the admissions team, then the student is accepted into LKA or placed on a waitlist for when a spot becomes available.
Parents of struggling readers entering grades 3- 5, who suspect that their child may be dyslexic and who are Louisiana residents should apply.
Louisiana law states that dyslexia is defined as "an unexpected difficulty in reading for an individual who has the intelligence to become a much better reader most commonly due to a difficulty in phonological processing which affects the ability of an individual to speak, read, and spell. Phonological processing means the appreciation of the individual sounds of spoken and written language." - Act 206
No! LKA is a tuition free charter school.
LKA serves many parishes so bussing isn't provided and we recommend carpooling with others when feasible.
Dyslexia is a distinct entity and is defined an unexpected difficulty with reading for one who has the intelligence to be a better reader. Autism is a separate entity and a child cannot have both autism and dyslexia.
Extended care services are available before and after school at an affordable monthly rate.
