While I do not have a child who has dyslexia, I see Louisiana Key Academy as a vital part of the education system in the Baton Rouge area. As a community, we have a responsibility to provide the best education possible to all the children in our community. As a resident of Louisiana for much of my life, I am tired and discouraged that our State is 49th or 50th in so many arenas. I firmly believe and I think most people would agree that the way to get off the bottom of many of those lists is to provide a good, quality education to all our citizens. That is not an easy task. But simply because it is not easy does not mean we cannot or should not do it. Children with dyslexia are like all kids—they are curious, they want to learn about the world around them, they want to succeed. But without a special place like Louisiana Key Academy that curiosity, that desire to learn and that desire to succeed may be crushed by a sense of failure and frustration. To serve these children is not a choice, it is an obligation. That is why I am involved.
At Louisiana Key Academy, our mission is to provide an innovative and effective learning curriculum to children who have been diagnosed with dyslexia. In doing so, we align ourselves with a vision where all children are given the tools they need to thrive. We believe that dyslexics should be identified and given the education necessary to reach their full potential. LKA is here as a champion for dyslexics as they engage in an excellent and accessible education.
